COM.lounge launches syntronik.de
COM.lounge is proud to announce syntronik.de, the first native implementation of an Agent Domain for the Open Grid Protocol. After the first successful teleport of an avatar from the Second Life Grid to an OpenSim powered region done by Linden Lab and IBM engineers this is another important step into a truly open metaverse without walled gardens. syntronik.de, as we call this Agent Domain, is the component which holds your avatar account and allows you to connect to any region supporting the Open Grid protocol. You can even run your own region. Or you can download the source of this Agent Domain and run your own instance of it being a provider yourself. Note though that this is a proof of concept only. The Open Grid Protocol is at it’s very beginning and in draft status right now. To learn more about the whole project and how it aims to be the HTTP for virtual worlds just visit our documentation area on syntronik.de. The Open Grid Protocol is an open, distributed protocol for interconnecting virtual worlds. It is defined by the Architecture Working Group which was founded by Linden Lab and includes engineers from Linden Lab, IBM and other companies as well as individuals. It is open to everybody who is interested. The Open Grid Protocol is in draft state at the moment. An Agent Domain is the part of the Open Grid which holds all the user accounts while a Region Domain is the actual 3D environment. syntronik.de is build upon the Content Management System Plone and the Open Grid Library pyogp, both open source software. The source code which powers the syntronik.de Agent Domain will also be released shortly. COM.lounge is Germany based consulting company specialized in virtual worlds, Python, Zope, Django and Plone development. Linden Lab, Second Life and Second Life Grid are registered trademarks of Linden Research.
